About SSHRS

The SSHRS has been prepared for the beauty and spa industry and sets out a minimum
standard that will be expected to achieve a bronze, silver, or gold rating. Salons will be supported by subject matter experts in their journey to achieving a gold salon award. To achieve gold award you must score 90% or above, a silver award 80-89% a bronze award 75-79% in the assessment criteria.

The following information and guidance will support you on each section for you to refer to at
each stage of the process. We also offer a range of training to help you to achieve a gold
award rating salon status.

The purpose of the scheme is to:

Promote businesses with a robust health and safety, and infection control
management systems in place that are taking action to reduce risk to the lowest
practicable level by implementing preventative measures and good industry practice
provide reassurance that those businesses are acting in compliance with their legal
activities.
Increase client confidence when making the decision about where they go for the
required treatment that they are looking for; this may have a knock-on effect on other
businesses to improve their hygiene and safety standards.
The criteria that is laid out in this document is concerned with reducing and where possible
eliminating the potential hazards associated with the treatments and the environment they
are being offered in. Businesses will be responsible for ensuring that all the required
documentation and verification of the said documents obtained are reviewed accordingly.
